October 2009
THE
BARTLETTWOODS
COMMUNICATOR
Candace's Corner
Welcome to October!
Wow, can you believe we're now into October? I am loving this
wonderful Fall weather. We went on some great outings last month,
and I have to say, the weather made them even better than I had
expected. I am hoping October will be just as beautiful.
Our apple picking was a huge success! I would like to thank the
residents and employees who helped. We had a great time picking,
peeling, and finally, baking the apples into pies and an apple crisp.
Exercise Class Expansion
Our exercise classes remain full: our health conscious residents have
continued to make 4 classes a week necessary!
Swimming at The Samoset
We have been enjoying our outings to the pool at The Samoset. It is a
lovely facility and swimming is such great exercise!
Walking Club
The weather is cooler, but sunny; perfect for a sweater and a long walk.
Computer Lessons
Computer lessons have resumed! For everyone with questions about
computer use - this class offers everything from emailing pictures to
grandchildren, to how to surf the web. You can use your own computer or
resident computer in the library.
Road Trips!
As usual, we have several fun trips planned for this month: The
Rockland Public Library, State of Maine Cheese Company, lunch at Sweet
Sensations and Morse's Sauerkraut, and a Fall Colors ride on the Maine
Eastern Railroad!
Root Beer Float Social
We're having a great time during these socials enjoying a nice treat as
well as reminiscing. Last month we had a scavenger hunt through
our purses! Who knows what fun I'll come up with this month?
Wine and Cheese Social
Our Wine and Cheese Socials have become very popular
with the residents of both the apartments and the cottages. It's a
good time to mingle and meet new friends.
Monthly Birthday Party and Music Too!
We are so lucky to have Cheryl volunteer her time and talent to make our
birthday parties so special. She always brings a delightful homemade
cake (that she bakes with special love), ice cream and her wonderful
smile. And the best part is that it doesn't have to be your birthday to
enjoy the party! Add music by John McTaggart and it's a delightful
afternoon!
Book Club With Linda
Linda always fills the Library with laughter, as she reads from an
assortment of novels and stories. Her strong voice and sense of
character make you feel as if you're living the story!
Librarian Appreciation Party
Many of you may not know this, but we have a wonderful
woman, the afore mentioned Linda Mann, who takes care of our library for
us. Let's get together for a party to meet and thank her for doing such
a great job!
Thomas Rustling: Investment Manager
Come learn how to avoid financial sharks, and ways to
make your money grow.
Dave Fisher Returns
Sing along with the very talented Dave Fisher. Dave's songs vary
from Folk to Classic Country to can't-sit-still Gospel.
The Greenfields
This popular trio returns to entertain us with singing, and playing
their various instruments.
Almost Authors and Artists Club
The Almost Authors and Artist Club is regrouping. With three
books printed to date, it will be fun to see what they create this time.
The Swing Timers Sashay Back
The Swing Timers are one of our most long standing
entertainment groups. For years we have enjoyed their music and look
forward to pushing the chairs back and dancing with them again!
Arlene Gamble
Come enjoy the magical fingers of Arlene Gamble on the piano.
Peter Banjo
Peter always gives us an amazing performance on his
banjo!
Jerry Wiles
Jerry is returning
with another interesting lecture. This time he
will share with us "Women in the 19th Century" including Elizabeth
Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.
Shelley' Flower Arranging
As always, Shelley returns this month.
Come see what Fall creation she has planned for us.
Michael Perry
The wonderful Michael Perry is back to share "The Drive
Home" from his exciting Alaskan trip.
Cribbage Tournament
And... for you competitive types, or just lovers of Cribbage...We had so
much fun with the Croquet Tournament that we decided to try your luck
and your minds with a Cribbage Tournament. May the best....resident
win!
Flu Shots
Lastly, though not very entertaining, we will be
offering flu shots to residents and the public on Wednesday October 21
from 9:00-11:00.
.....And Games
Participate in Scrabble, Bridge, Phase 10, Bingo,
Cribbage, Apples to Apples, and Crossword Puzzles!
How do we fit it all in??!
