June 2009
THE BARTLETT WOODS COMMUNICATOR

Candace's Corner
Welcome to June! We all want to welcome MARY EADS to Bartlett Woods, as our new Executive Director. We are so thankful you are here, Mary. The board members made a perfect choice when they hired you and we are sure you will come to love this place as much as we all do.
Spring has sprung and Nola has done a wonderful job on the grounds. The flowers and trees are beautiful as well as the big rocks, giving the gardens a lot of character. The parking lot is a huge improvement also. We hear it is easier to get in and out of vehicles, and it looks great too!
It's that time of the year again, time for annual luau on June 24th. We always have such a fun time, so don't forget to invite your friends and family to this one!
We have a great month planned, so have a wonderful June!!
Candace

Exercise Class Expansion
Our morning exercise classes have become so popular that we are adding another session. We're lucky to have our good instructors come from the Y, and happy that so many people are finding this a healthy and fun thing to do!

 Swimming at The Samoset

We have been enjoying our outings to the pool at The Samoset. It is a lovely facility and swimming is such great exercise!

Walking Club
Since we're talking about all this exercise, isn't it great that the weather has been so beautiful. We are enjoying all the outings around the cottages and grounds - Bartlett Woods certainly is pretty right now!

Computer Lessons
For everyone with questions about computer use - this class offers everything from emailing pictures to grandchildren to how to surf the web. You can use your own computer or resident computer in the Library.

Road Trips!
This month we have some exciting trips planned. We're heading to Beth's Farm Stand, which is SO much more than your usual farm stand! We're also going to the world famous Samoset Resort for a lovely lunch trip and up to the top of Mount Battie, in the beautiful Camden Hills State Park. What a view!

Lemonade Social
For this month's social, we are inviting everyone to bring wedding photos and memories, and we'll share our happy stories. This has become a very popular time.

Men's Social
This time is dedicated to the men in our community, a time to share past experiences and careers, hobbies and stories.

Monthly Birthday Party and Music Too!
We are so lucky to have our own good Cheryl volunteer her time and talent to make our birthday parties so special. She always brings a delightful homemade cake (that she bakes with special love) ice cream and her wonderful smile. And the best part is that it doesn't have to be your birthday to enjoy the party! Add music by John McTaggart and it's a delightful afternoon!

Book Club With Linda
Linda always fills the Library with laughter, as she reads from an assortment of novels and stories. Her strong voice and sense of character make you feel like you are living in the book!

Michael Perry Is Back!
Michael is bringing his adventures back again. Michael travels often and puts together fantastic presentations that he generously shares with others. This time he's been to Alaska and will share his stories and pictures of his trip. We are looking forward to his visit!

Trolley Ride and Ice Cream
It's June and we're enjoying outings after the winter. We're taking a trolley ride through town, and discussing the historical landmarks along the way. On the way back, we're heading to the ice cream parlor in town, and eating something sweet!

Jerry Wiles is Back
Jerry Wiles is bringing the '50's to present. Jerry's extensive knowledge of history becomes evident in his presentations, and his engaging personality makes history fun! This should be a good one!

The Downing Singers Return
The ever-popular Downing Singers will be here to perform again. We love and appreciate their visits and look forward to seeing them again.

Author Eleanor Richardson Presents Book
Mrs. Richardson has written a book on life in a small coastal city - Mechanic Street: Uncovering the History of a Maine Neighborhood. This book follows the story and history of a street here in Rockland.

Neck, Shoulder and Hand Massages
Namaste Institute of Massage Therapy will be coming back to Bartlett Woods to give massages. They will be concentrating on necks, shoulders and  hands. This is a wonderful way to help relax muscles and ease pain, and it just feels good too!

Come sing along, with the very talented Dave Fisher. Dave's songs vary from Folk to Classic Country and even to Gospel.

Almost Authors and Artists Club
The Almost Authors and Artist Club is regrouping. With three books printed to date, it will be fun to see what they create this time.
